GLOSSARY / TLS / SSL
What is TLS / SSL?
Transport Layer Security — the protocol that encrypts and authenticates internet communications (the “S” in HTTPS).
TLS (the successor to SSL) provides confidentiality, integrity, and server authentication via certificates issued by trusted CAs. Misconfigured or expired certificates break trust and enable MITM.
TLS 1.2 and 1.3 are current; older versions are deprecated.
